Public Information Request
Public Information Request
The district handles requests for public information (open records) in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), Texas Government Code 552.001. Submit all requests for public information to the Splendora ISD Communications Department. This procedure allows the district to accurately document when it receives each request and respond promptly. If the district cannot produce the request within ten business days, it will notify the requestor in writing of the reasonable date and time when it will be available.
Procedures for making a request: The request must ask for records or information that already exist. The Act does not require the district to create new information, conduct legal research, or answer questions.
Charges to the requester: A person may request to view information, obtain copies of information, or both. If a request is for copies of information, the district may charge 10 cents per copy and $15 per hour for labor costs associated with processing the request if the number of copies exceeds 50 pages. The district may also assess labor charges for multiple requests totaling more than 36 hours of preparation time per fiscal year. For further explanation, review the Board Policy Manual for GBAA-Access to Public Information.
Responsibilities of the requester: Any person requesting public information has the responsibility to:
Submit the request:
- In writing: Splendora ISD, 23419 FM 2090, Splendora, TX 77372.
- By email: communications@splendoraisd.org, Deitra Johnson, Director of Communications
- In person: Splendora ISD, 23419 FM 2090, Splendora, TX 77372.
Include sufficient description and detail about the requested items so the district can accurately identify and locate them.
Clarify the type or amount of information requested if needed. The District shall release any requested information that is not legally confidential. For items the district chooses to withhold, the district will request a ruling from the Office of the Attorney General. The District will send the requester a copy of that communication. If the requested information falls under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), federal law supersedes state law, and the district may withhold it without requiring an Attorney General opinion if it violates student privacy.
The Splendora ISD Communications Director may be contacted at 281-689-3128 for further questions regarding these Public Information Request Procedures.
