Suzanne Soto Honored with the R.B. Tullis Award

Suzanne Soto

Splendora ISD is proud to recognize Suzanne Soto as this year’s recipient of the R.B. Tullis Award. Established by the Board of Trustees in 1995, this award honors community members who have made outstanding contributions to Splendora ISD and exemplify the district’s spirit of service and dedication.

Suzanne’s journey of service began close to home. “I’ve always enjoyed helping,” she shared, “but I officially started volunteering when my sons joined Splendora’s Pack 1013.” What began as simple volunteer work quickly grew into a passion for teaching and supporting others. Realizing she loved the teaching aspect of volunteering even more than her career in the airline industry, Suzanne decided to return to school—ultimately becoming both a teacher and a counselor within Splendora ISD.

Her dedication to education and service didn’t stop there. Suzanne went on to serve on the Splendora ISD Board of Trustees for nine years, earning the distinction of TASB Master Trustee. Even after retirement, she has remained deeply involved in district and community efforts. She continues to serve on building and bond committees, mentors students at the high school, and shares her time and talents as a master gardener and art learner.

Her love of learning and service has also led her to volunteer at community gardening events and serve as an open-house docent at the Locke Surls Museum in Splendora, where she helps showcase the district’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.

“Suzanne’s legacy in Splendora ISD runs deep,” said Board President Allen Wells. “Her impact as a teacher, counselor, trustee, and mentor has touched countless lives. She continues to give back to the community she loves, always with humility and a servant’s heart. Suzanne truly represents what the R.B. Tullis Award is all about—lifelong dedication to helping others and making Splendora a better place.”

Congratulations, Suzanne, and thank you for your many years of dedication to cultivating exceptional people in Splendora ISD.
