Superintendent Dr. Jeff Burke Announces Retirement

Splendora ISD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Burke has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Now in his eighth year as superintendent and with a 28-year career in public education, Dr. Burke has been a steadfast leader and advocate for the district’s mission of growth, stability, and community engagement.

“Dr. Burke’s integrity, humility, and vision have led Splendora ISD through significant growth and change,” said Board President Allen Wells. “Under his leadership, our district has achieved a remarkable level of stability that has positively impacted students, families, teachers, and staff. Though saddened by his decision, we are deeply grateful for his dedicated service and commitment to our community. Dr. Burke’s retirement is well-deserved, and we are happy for him and his family as they embark on this new chapter while remaining a cherished part of the Splendora family.”

Dr. Burke’s tenure includes many achievements, such as expanding Career and Technical Education programs, successfully passing the 2022 bond, and enhancing community involvement in key district decisions. He has fostered a culture of compassion and respect, setting a high standard for leadership and establishing a strong foundation for future success.

Transition Plan and Community Engagement:

The Board of Trustees has outlined a thorough plan to ensure a seamless transition and find a successor who embodies Splendora ISD’s values, character, and spirit. Board President Allen Wells detailed the process and timeline for selecting a new superintendent, involving input from staff, families, and community members.

“We recognize and value the dedication of our staff, teachers, and administrators who bring Splendora ISD’s mission to life daily. In selecting our next superintendent, we plan to include all stakeholders—staff, families, and community members—through surveys, focus groups, and open forums,” said Wells. “This transparent process reflects our commitment to stability, progress, and the continued success of Splendora ISD.”

Key Dates in the Superintendent Search Process:

  • November 14: We will begin interviewing search firms at a special meeting to support the superintendent search.
  • November 18: The Board will select a search firm during its regular meeting to assist in identifying the most qualified candidates
  • Following November 18:The superintendent job opening will be posted, inviting internal and external candidates to apply. We’ll conduct information-gathering sessions for staff, families, and community members, inviting input on the qualities and experience that are most important in our next superintendent. This feedback will shape our selection criteria.
  • January: The interview process for superintendent candidates will begin.
  • Late Winter/Early Spring: Our goal is to select a new superintendent, allowing for a smooth transition that prioritizes stability and continuity for the district.

“Serving Splendora ISD has been the honor of my career,” said Dr. Burke. “I am grateful for the trust and support of the Board, staff, and families. By announcing my retirement now, we can conduct a thorough search for the next leader who will build on our district’s successes. I look forward to supporting our Board and staff during this transition, and I am fully dedicated to achieving our goals for the current school year.”
