Splendora ISD Leadership Meets with Senator Creighton to Address Key Issues Affecting Public Education
Splendora ISD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Burke, Chief Operations Officer Reese Briggs, and board members Allen Wells, Dan Muirhead, and Jennifer Stewart met with Senator Brandon Creighton and his Chief of Staff Court Manske to discuss issues affecting Splendora ISD and public schools in the state.
"With the fast growth and funding challenges that we are experiencing in Splendora ISD, we wanted to meet with Senator Creighton to discuss how these issues affect us locally and how they are impacting our students, teachers, and district as a whole," said Dr. Burke. In addition to the discussion around the needed basic allotment increase due to inflation and operating costs, SISD voiced concerns with Special Education needs and related staffing and funding challenges, safety and mental health, fast growth challenges such as equalizing I&S funding, and issues with A-F and accountability.
Specifically, the district raised concerns with STAAR 2.0, machine grading, and changing state assessments to a diagnostic and formative format. "We appreciate the opportunity to meet with Senator Creighton and thank him for taking the time to listen to our concerns. We want to work with our legislators to bring solutions that we feel will enhance public education in our district and across the state, and we realize that the legislature has a monumental task ahead of them. We are experiencing real challenges that need to be addressed, especially in the face of the tremendous growth we are experiencing," said Dr. Burke. "We look forward to continued conversations and legislation that will help us continue to serve our students, teachers, and community as a whole."
