No-Cost Summer Meals for Kids

Healthy Summer Meals graphic

Providing healthy summer meals to Splendora ISD children helps make sure kids have a healthy vacation and are ready to learn when school starts again. This summer, the Splendora ISD Child Nutrition Department will provide healthy, free summer meals to children 18 years old and younger, and to enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old. The Seamless Summer Option (SSO) Summer Feeding Program is a nutrition program offered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) runs the program in Texas. For children who rely on school meals during the school year, these meals offer good nutrition when school is out for the summer.

This year, we are happy to offer free summer meals at two Splendora ISD school cafeterias. Information about the locations and serving times is below.

The Splendora ISD Child Nutrition Department is one of the groups that works with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to serve meals across Texas. Families can use these three tools to find a meal site anywhere in the state:

  • Call: 2-1-1 to talk to someone

  • Visit: www.SummerFood.org for a map that shows where to find meals

  • Text: FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304

Our community is important to the success of the summer meal program. Groups like schools, churches, non-profit summer camps, government agencies, and other tax-exempt organizations work with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to serve meals in areas where more than half of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. All meal sites must be run by a group with a contract with TDA. Summer meal sites help children succeed by giving them the food they need to return to school in the fall, ready to learn.
