Fresh Flavors at the Farmers Market
Colorful and fresh fruits greeted Timber Lakes' students as the Child Nutrition Department hosted a Farmer's Market Fresh Produce Tasting, courtesy of Hardees Fresh Produce and Fine Foods.
Students had the chance to taste a variety of fresh produce, including familiar items like Granny Smith apples, blueberries, and Fuji apples, as well as some less familiar options like jicama, kiwi, mango, and English cucumbers. They provided valuable feedback through a fresh produce survey, helping us plan our menus for the upcoming Summer Feeding Program and the 2024-2025 school year.
The students' favorites were Granny Smith apples, fresh pineapple, and kiwi! We're excited to incorporate these favorites into our menus and to continue offering nutrition education opportunities at all our schools.
This event was just the beginning of our efforts to engage students in menu planning, surveys, and nutrition education. Both students and staff had a great time, and we're looking forward to more events like this in the future!
