SHS Freshmen Provide Care Packages to the Homeless

Two Splendora High School freshmen are demonstrating what it means to be servant leaders. Kayleigh McClellan and Morgan Squier were just trying to find something to do for volunteer hours. They came up with a service project to put together 30 care packages for 30 homeless people.
The students spent about three weeks getting donations of non-perishable items and toiletries from several companies and individuals they contacted. Recently, their mothers drove the students down Highway 59 South from Splendora all the way to the Little York area for a few hours to pass out their packages.
The students were gaining volunteer hours, but the project turned out to be a lot more than that. Morgan said, “Making the bags was fun and I loved seeing other people enjoy them.” Kayleigh’s sentiment was similar, “The project was so fun to do with my friend, and the warm feeling I felt inside when giving the bags away was wonderful, knowing they were all very happy and grateful. I hope we can do it again.”
