New Hires for the Teaching and Learning Department
At the June 27, 2022 meeting, the SISD School Board approved new hires for the Teaching and Learning Department. Itzil Welch will be the Director of Multilingual Services, Dr. Kristy Dietrich will be the Humanities Coordinator, and Staci Davis will be the STEM Coordinator. They will make great additions to the Teaching and Learning Department.
Itzil Welch will be the Director of Multilingual Programs. She is from Region 6 and Region 4 Education Service Centers, where she served as the Bilingual ESL Title III specialist. Her main responsibilities included leading and supporting Bilingual ESL Title III directors across the region, providing program guidance, and supporting and coaching new district directors, campus administrators, teachers, and staff in the program implementation of various emergent bilingual programs, including Dual Language Immersion and ESL programs; and hosting state and regional parent engagement events. Welch provided training, guidance, and support on state and federal law and State Board of Education rules for compliance. Welch supported districts, including Splendora ISD, where she worked closely with administrators, teachers, and students.
Prior to serving at Region 4, Welch worked in Klein ISD. Her positions included district dyslexia specialist, curriculum writer, and Title I/bilingual literacy specialist. Before Klein ISD, Welch served as a Descubriendo La Lectura/Reading Recovery and Intervention Specialist, Bilingual/ESL teacher, and a Life Skills teacher assistant in Spring Branch ISD. Her professional affiliations include work with the National Association of English Learner Program Administrators (NAELPA) and the Houston Area Association for Bilingual Educators (HAABE). She has utilized being a multilingual learner herself to guide her passion in her work.
While completing her education major at Brigham Young University, Welch met her husband, Joel. They’ve been married for 23 years and have two children, Daphne and Jared. She enjoys serving in her church with youth programs and is excited to be a part of the Splendora ISD family.
Mrs. Welch will take over the position previously filled by Zizi Asfour. Earlier this month, we said goodbye to Ms. Asfour as she retired. We are thankful for the love and support she brought to our staff and students.
Dr. Kristy Dietrich is a proud public school educator with 14 years of experience.
She began her career at Cleveland High School, where she taught World History, Dual Credit United States History, Dual Credit Western Civilization, and Advanced Placement World History.
Dr. Dietrich has served as an English Language Arts and Social Studies Instructional Specialist, Academic Dean, High School Principal, and most recently, Secondary Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
She is a graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she earned a bachelor of arts in History and Political Science. She has a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Dietrich has been married to her husband Adam for 16 years and has three children, Wyatt, Bryce, and Addyson.
Staci Davis has been in education since 1999. She taught math at Henderson Middle School in Sour Lake for 11 years and taught in Beaumont, Tatum, and Jasper ISDs. From 2019 to 2021, she was the math coach at Huffman Middle School.
Mrs. Davis graduated from Lumberton High School, received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M in 1998, and her master's degree in Educational Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2008.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and attending basketball games. She has been married to her husband, Clay, since 2000. He is the boys' basketball coach at Hardin-Jefferson ISD. They have two boys, Jaystan and Clayton, who are attending college.
Mrs. Davis thoroughly enjoyed her role as the Instructional Specialist at Peach Creek Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year and is excited for her next adventure as STEM Coordinator for Splendora ISD.
