I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions. ~James Michener
Welcome to my website! I have been teaching at Splendora Junior High for twenty years, after having taught in Alamo Heights ISD and East Central ISD in San Antonio, in Alief ISD in Houston, and in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Cairo, Georgia. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Florida State University and my Masters in English Literature from the University of Texas in San Antonio. I have three kids and a terrific husband! I teach 7th grade English. I am also the Language Arts Team Leader and the yearbook sponsor. I sponsor U.I.L. editiorial writing and spelling as well. I also coordinate the SJHS Spelling Bee. Seventh graders will take the STAAR Writing Test on March 27 and 28. They will also take the STARR Reading Test on April 28. These tests are now timed at 4 hours per day. The rigor is higher, and the writing test involves multiple essays. My personal goal is to have every single one of my students pass these tests! More than that, I plan on having most of my students make "commended." With patience, hard work, and a great attitude, we can make this happen. Please make sure your child comes to school each day. We're going to Go for the Gold! Please monitor your child's progress in my class via the computer. If you don't have a password yet, please contact Mrs. Debbie Gardner in the front office. Remember, progress reports come out every third week of the grading period. Please e-mail me at jhart@splendoraisd.org or call me at 281-689-6343. My conference period is from about 7:15 to 8:00 a.m. I have tutoring before and/or after school. I look forward to working with your child this year!
