District Advisory Committee members presented the District of Innovation Plan to the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) members at their monthly meeting. DEIC members were given the opportunity to ask questions and consider approving the plan. All voting members voted "For" the plan.
The next step is to post the plan and notify the Texas Education Agency's Commissioner of Education. Another public hearing will be held on March 20 to review the final plan and present it to the Splendora ISD Board of Trustees for their approval.
House Bill 1842, passed during the 84th Legislative Session, permits Texas public school districts to become Districts of Innovation and to obtain exemptions from certain provisions of the Texas Education Code. Districts are eligible for designation if certain performance requirements are met and the district follows certain procedures for adoption as outlined in Statute.
